The Bedotia madagascariensis, also known as the Madagascar Rainbowfish, is a beautiful freshwater fish found in clear rivers in the Atsinanana region of eastern Madagascar. It prefers habitats that are partially or completely shaded by riparian vegetation and where water flow is not too strong. The species is also found in marshes with weak pH and tannins in the water. The fish grows to about 8-10 cm in size and should be kept in groups of at least 8-10 specimens to ensure that it is comfortable and exhibits its natural behavior.
An aquarium of at least 120 cm in length is recommended for keeping Bedotia madagascariensis. The fish prefers well-oxygenated water with high water quality and therefore requires regular water changes of 30-50% weekly. It is important that the aquarium provides strong filtration, filtering the volume of the aquarium four to five times per hour.
Bedotia madagascariensis is an uncomplicated species that can be kept in a variety of community aquariums. It is not aggressive and gets along well with peaceful cichlids, catfish and other fish of similar size. The fish can be fed a variety of foods, including live, frozen, and dried foods. The diet should consist of small insects and other invertebrates, which should be fed regularly in the form of bloodworms, daphnia, and Artemia.
Bedotia madagascariensis is a beautiful fish that looks great in a densely planted aquarium with some driftwood roots and branches, as well as some surface plants and a layer of foliage on the substrate. Because of its preference for shady habitats, the aquarium can be decorated with a variety of plants to create a natural look.
Bedotia madagascariensis is also a suitable fish for breeding projects. The fish lays its eggs in plants or other suitable substrates, and the female can lay several robust eggs per day. It is best to keep the fish in groups of one male and two to three females to achieve successful breeding.
If you wish to purchase the Bedotia madagascariensis, we recommend an aquarium of at least 120 cm in length, as well as a reliable filter and heater. We have filters and heaters in different sizes in our offer and we also offer a wide range of food for Bedotia madagascariensis. Our products are of high quality and are highly recommended by our customers in your region.
Our feed recommendation: The NatureHolic main feed is a professional staple feed for all aquarium fish. We supply Hauptfeed in the form of soft granules, which, thanks to its grain size of half a millimeter, can be easily absorbed by small to medium-sized fish. The soft consistency resembles the texture of insect larvae in nature and protects the fish mouth from micro-injuries.
Our plant recommendation: Use for planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planarians and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend when keeping fish the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
