Supreme bumblebee shrimp - Caridinia sp.

The Supreme Bumblebee Shrimp is probably the most beautiful form of bumblebee shrimp... the animals are without exception all solid black and white banded throughout and look almost like K2-K4 Black Bees. This striking black and white striped coloration makes the Supreme Bumblebee Shrimp a good choice for planted aquariums, where it contrasts nicely with green and also reddish plants . Females of the Supreme Bumblebee Shrimp reach up to three inches in size, while males remain slightly smaller and are also less chubby. The Supreme Bumblebee Shrimp can be distinguished from the Bee Shrimp by its much shorter, practically toothless rostrum (the "nose").

Behind the name "bumblebee shrimp" is a whole species complex, so we list them here as Caridina sp. In nature, these species occur in very similar biotopes and have virtually the same requirements for water values, temperature and feeding.

Also the Supreme Bumble Shrimp is - like all bumble shrimp - a soft water shrimp. In too hard water they cannot be kept permanently and certainly not reproduced. Often tap water is not suitable for them. In these cases we recommend to use Osmosis water and a special Hardening salt for soft water shrimp (bee salt).

The Supreme Bumblebee Shrimp is an extremely peaceful group animal. It can also be socialized with other shrimps and small, non-predatory fish, provided the requirements for water values are comparable. With shrimps from the species complex around Caridina serrata(bee shrimps, tiger shr imps and so on) a crossability is discussed. Bumblebee shrimp also socialize well with large crustaceans and snails .

The Supreme bumblebee shrimp takes care of food remains and algae deposits as a remnant recycler and thus keeps the aquarium clean. But also special shrimp food is eaten very gladly. We recommend giving Supreme Bumble Shrimp a protein food specially developed for shrimp twice a week. A very good natural permanent food is brown autumn leaves.

The Supreme Bumblebee Shrimp is easy to breed if the external conditions are suitable for them. Females carry 20 to 40 relatively large eggs under their abdomen, from which fully developed juvenile shrimp hatch after three to four weeks of gestation. Adult Supreme Bumblebee Shrimp do not chase the young, so there is no need to separate them for rearing.
