Thick Skin mouthbrooder - Haplochromis CH 44
Despite their rather small size of c.a 12-14 cm these cichlids need a rather large aquarium from c.a 300 liters. The males are extremely territorial and therefore need more space. We recommend to keep always 1 male and 2-3 females in the tank, the substrate should be fine sand, the color does not matter. Hiding places by hardscape or clay tubes should not be missing. Planting in your tank is always recommended, however the Thick Skins do not depend on it, so it is not necessary. The pH should be kept between 7.0 and 8.5.
They are relatively low maintenance in terms of food, the chichlids can be fed with live food as well as frozen food. Of course they also like Natureholic Chichfeed, they love it!
The breeding of the fish is relatively easy and could already be observed several times in aquariums. The females are mouth brooders and take over the part of the brood care the male takes over the territory care.
