Yellow Labidochromis, also known as "Yellow", make the heart of Malawi fans beat faster! With their great color, these Africans provide eye-catching highlights in the aquarium. Their easy care and keeping also makes them very interesting for beginners.
Our yellow Labidochromis are available in pairs.
With a slight high back these cichlids show the typical perch shape. Their squeaky yellow base color gives them their name. The dorsal fin has a black stripe, the fins are yellow transparent with turquoise shading. The first pectoral fin rays are slightly elongated and also turquoise. The eye ring may be spotted black.
In the aquarium the mouthbrooders can be bred without problems. In this process, the female incubates the eggs in her mouth and releases fry that are cared for by both.
Yellow Labidochromis should be kept in an aquarium designed for them with an edge length of at least 80 cm. Preferably a reef is built for them with perforated rock, which is secured against falling over and has several hiding places. A calcareous coarse-grained reef sand is suitable as substrate. Planting is not necessary, but can be made with hard-leaved and bitter-tasting perching plants such as Anubia . Their aquarium water may be hard to very hard with a total hardness (GH) between 10-30 °dGH, and a pH of 7.5-8.3. They feel particularly well at 24-28 °C.
The Yellow fights at most once among themselves and can be therefore well socialized with fish, which show similar attitude parameters. Conceivable here are different Synodontis-Species like for example cuckoo catfish, but also other Loricariid catfish or other Malawi Cichlids.
The vegetarian Labidochromis eats in its habitat predominantly growth and coverings, but also the microfauna contained therein such as smallest crustaceans and worms. In the aquarium it can therefore be optimally fed with dry food in the form of flake food or granulated food for omnivorous ornamental fish. Since it also eats smaller crustaceans, snails and other invertebrates, it can occasionally be offered live foods such as feeder shrimp, white mosquito larvae or Artemia can be offered.
Our food recommendation: NatureHolic Cichfeed is a great staple food for all carnivorous cichlids in the aquarium, perfectly meeting their requirements for food composition. The tasty pearls are also very well eaten by larger cichlids. Thanks to their soft texture, NatureHolic Cichfeed food pearls are gentle on the mouth and can be eaten very well by the fish.
Our plant recommendation: Use for the planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planarians and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend when keeping fish the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
