The whitefin cactus catfish is a calm and great companion, which stands out for its great appearance. It can grow up to 15 cm in the aquarium and has no teeth in the lower jaw. Like many catfish, it prefers a shady location, so it is advisable to avoid harsh lighting and provide additional shade with floating plants. It is important that he is kept in a group, as he draws strength from group size and can become shy otherwise.
To provide a suitable habitat for him, the aquarium should be well structured and offer sufficient retreat possibilities such as rocks and roots. The substrate should consist of sand, as he likes to burrow in it. The aquarium filter should be sufficiently dimensioned to treat the water well and enrich it with oxygen. The Whitefin Cactus Catfish is a crepuscular carnivore and prefers insect larvae, mollusk meat and snails as food. Other peaceful fish do well as a socialization as long as they do not dispute or attack its food. Invertebrates such as crayfish should be avoided.
Our food recommendation: The NatureHolic Main Feed is a professional staple food for all aquarium fish. We supply Hauptfeed in the form of soft granules which, thanks to its grain size of half a millimeter, can be easily ingested by small to medium-sized fish. The soft consistency resembles the texture of insect larvae in nature and protects the fish mouth from micro-injuries.
Our plant recommendation: Use for planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planarians and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend when keeping fish the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
