The Galaxy Zebra Shrimp originates from Taiwan, from where it could be imported thanks to Dilwyn Tng (better known to many as Silane). This is a very beautiful breeding form of the genus Caridina. The Galaxy Zebra Shrimp is still a very new variety. Particularly striking are not only their rich colors, but also the special black and white pattern, which reminds in the head area something of a starry sky. On the abdomen white horizontal stripes shine on a black background. This shrimp grows slightly larger, females can reach up to 3.5 inches in body length, males remain slightly smaller and have a less bulbous body shape.
Like all bee shrimp varieties and mixes, the Galaxy Zebra Shrimp requires soft water with a slightly acidic pH. We recommend keeping them in osmosis water specially prepared for bee shrimp Mineral salt prepared osmosis water or deionized water suitable for bee shrimp. Ideal is a non-fertilized active Soil in the shrimp tank, which buffers the water values to values friendly for these shrimps, but keeping is also possible on neutral soil like shrimp gravel or non-hardening aquarium gravel.
When it comes to food, the Galaxy Zebra Shrimp is not picky. Shrimp are generally scrappers, specializing in high fiber foods. Brown autumn leaves (briefly scalded they go down immediately) should always be present in the aquarium. They are grazed on and later the leaf tissue itself is also eaten. Special shrimp food is also advisable, and twice a week a protein food for shrimp should be given.
Due to the rarity of the Galaxy Zebra Shrimp, it should not be socialized or interbred with other shrimp, even though these peaceful groupers get along well with conspecifics. Fish or crayfish are also not suitable aquarium partners, we definitelyrecommend a species tank forthese beautiful shrimp. As a starting stock is a group size of 10 to 15 animals and an aquarium of 20 l volume upwards.
Especially in summer you should make sure that the temperature in the aquarium does not exceed 25 °C and if necessary provide cooling and a good oxygen supply.
Breeding the Galaxy Zebra Shrimp is a bit more difficult than with other shrimp species such as Neocaridina, but with good conditions it is quite possible. After the female has carried the fertilized eggs under her abdomen for about four to six weeks, she releases between 15 and 30 almost fully developed shrimp babies. The parents do not attack the young shrimp, so they do not have to be separated and can remain in the aquarium. Since the Galaxy Zebra Shrimp is still a very new pattern here, the offspring should be carefully selected.
Our food recommendation: NatureHolic's soft Mainfeed Softpads are designed for daily feeding. They contain all the nutrients shrimp need for shell development, egg formation and growth. During the production we pay attention to a gentle and environmentally friendly production, where the vitamins and other valuable ingredients are preserved as much as possible.
Our plant recommendation: Use for planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planaria and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend for fish keeping the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
