Hottonia palustris is an aquatic plant native to Europe and Asia. Natural removal is prohibited, the water feather, also called water primrose, is considered an endangered species and is therefore strictly protected - however, as an aquarium plant from the nursery, the purchase is perfectly fine. The water primrose has beautiful curved stems, which are covered with deeply cut lobed, intense medium green leaves.
At 60-80 cm, water primrose grows very tall, but it tolerates pruning except well and can thus be kept small. The growth then becomes more bushy and compact. Hottonia palustris needs a lot of light and a good nutrient supply, gladly also a CO2 fertilization, which is however not compellingly necessary. With too little light, the plant dies without a sound.
Hottonia palustris has very thin roots, so it should be planted in rather fine substrate. It also sprouts light-colored water roots that contrast nicely with the dark green main shoot. The plant is very grateful for root fertilization.
As a native species, Hottonia palustris is virtually predestined for keeping in a garden pond. Here the beautiful aquatic plant can even come to bloom.
Hottonia palustris grows very fast under good conditions and with a good supply of macronutrients, and for this reason prevents the threat of algae plagues in the aquarium.
The shoot tips that remain after pruning can be used elsewhere, Hottonia palustris is thus very easy to propagate.
This Hottonia palustris comes from cell culture from a plant technology laboratory. Like all aquarium plants cultivated inVitro, this water feather is free of pests and nuisances such as snails, it does not bring algae or pathogens, and no exposure to pesticides. Simply rinse the substrate very carefully from the fine roots and plant - no quarantine measures required.
