From South America comes the True Triangle Catfish, which is scientifically also called Corydoras eques tefe and is mainly found in the central Amazon region, but also in the area around Tefé du Cudajas. Their great dark blue ground color with the name-giving triangle on the head as well as the golden framing make them extremely attractive bottom dwellers, which can be maintained class.
Offer your favorites an aquarium from 80 liters and equip it with a sandy bottom or a gravel-sand mixture. Because they search the bottom all day for goodies, they could otherwise injure their sensitive barbels. In addition, as intestinal breathers, they regularly seek out the water surface to breathe, so you should always keep this freely accessible. Also, the triangle catfish prefers it a bit shadier, you can make this possible with floating plants, but also dim the lighting a bit. Also provide some current and soft to medium hard water, which you change regularly.
With plants, flat pebbles and root structures you can offer them great hiding places, which they like to visit for resting. Make sure that all corners and edges are rounded. If they feel comfortable they will even reproduce. Females can lay up to 800 eggs per spawning phase, but of course not all of them will make it. With a strong live or frozen food you can feed them well and get them to mate. Especially mosquito larvae have proven to be effective. Also large water changes with colder soft water help. You can raise the young in the breeding tank with nauplii, because the parents are spawn predators.
Corys are sociable animals, therefore allow them the strength of their swarm and keep them best in groups of at least 7 animals. You can also socialize them with other peaceful fishes or even loricariids, tetras, danios and even shrimps. However, it is better to avoid crayfish and large-armed shrimp.
The omnivorous triangle catfish is not a fast feeder, you can offer it dry and granulated food, but also catfish chips and scalded vegetables. Live and frozen foods such as mosquito larvae or Artemia are also very popular with them.
Our food recommendation: The NatureHolic Catfish Feed for all aufwuchs feeding sucking catfish in the aquarium is a balanced tablet food, which does not cloud the water and the fish like to eat. The catfish tablets also contain NatureHolic active ingredient complexes that provide sucking catfish with everything they need for a strong immune system, healthy growth and great, contrasting coloration. As snack, supplementary food or vacation food we recommend the CatfishPlates.
Our plant recommendation: Use for planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planaria and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend when keeping fish the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
