The Red Pinto Tiger as well as the Pinto Tiger Purple Red from Skyfish comes from a hybrid breeding, here different species were crossed with each other. Therefore they are called Caridina sp. From bee shrimp (Caridina logemanni) and from taiwan shrimp comes the color, and tiger shrimp (Caridina mariae) have contributed to the pattern - among others. The high quality of Skyfish dwarf shrimp includes both color density and color coverage.
The Grade S Red Pinto Tiger Shr imp combine the deep red of the Shadow Shrimp with the pied pattern of the Pinto and the stripes of the Tiger Shrimp. Here you buy a breeding group of ten Grade S shr imp from the breeding of Leon Su aka Skyfish. Again a completely different chapter are the Pinto Tiger Purple Red of Grade SS with their beautiful metallic effect. They are covered by a layer which gives them a metallic shine - a very special coloration and an absolute sensation in the shrimp world! Here you buy a breeding group of 3 of these spectacular dwarf shrimp.
Pinto Tiger shrimp grow to a size of about 2 to 3 cm. The males of the Caridina hybrids usually remain not only thinner, but also somewhat smaller, the females become large and impressively beefy. They are easily recognized by their so-called tiger scoop, the second segment on the abdomen, which is clearly enlarged towards the bottom. Of course, the sex differentiation is very easy when the ladies carry eggs.
Pinto tiger shrimp prefer relatively soft water in the aquarium with low to no carbonate hardness, a high oxygen content and as low a germ load as possible. A heavily fertilized planted aquarium is not suitable because the beautiful high breeding shrimp do not tolerate nitrates well, which are found in many plant fertilizers. A suitable aquarium for Pinto Tiger shrimp has a volume of at least 20 liters. Since tap water is usually too hard and not optimal in composition for high breeding Caridina, you should use osmosis water or fully desalinated water and a GH+ mineral salt for the Skyfish Pinto Tiger Dwarf Shrimp. Temperatures of 20 to 25 degrees are ideal. If the temperature rises permanently above 25 °C in summer, the aquarium should be cooled.
As substrate, experienced breeders like to choose active Soil, which softens and stabilizes the water and brings the pH into a slightly acidic range. In the Garnelio system we keep the Skyfish shrimp in osmosis water, which we treat with bee salt. The conductance in these aquariums is 250 microsiemens and the pH is below 7, in the slightly acidic range. An efficient filter prevents a high organic load of the aquarium water and keeps the germ density low.
In breeding tanks for high-breeding shrimps, one refrains from heavy planting. It is best to use mosses and perching plants such as Bucephalandra in a breeding aquarium for the Skyfish Pinto Tiger, which are tied up. This way you can easily take out the roots or stones with the plants if you want to get an overview of the status of the breeding project. In the plants the shrimps find numerous hiding places and biofilms as food basis.
We can definitely not recommend a socialization of the Skyfish Caridina Pinto Tiger Shrimp with fish, crabs or shrimps. They are best kept in a species tank. If the tank is large enough, small catfish such as Otocinclus may be possible. Snails often do not last long in soft water. A good alternative for loosening the bottom and removing food remains are shiny worms or Tubifex from many breeders. Incidentally, the worms serve as a live food source for the shrimp. Other shrimp from the group around Caridina cantonensis can crossbreed with the Skyfish Pinto Tiger shrimp, which can result in a significant deterioration of color coverage and undesirable patterns.
For advanced shrimp breeders with some experience, breeding Skyfish Caridina Pinto Tiger Shrimp is actually not a big problem. The females release between 15 and 30 young every 4-6 weeks. They carry the eggs beforehand on their swimming legs, where they perform brood care. The young are miniature versions of their parents and can easily survive in freshwater.
The Skyfish Pinto Tiger Shrimp eat aufwuchs. They are omnivores, fed primarily on food of plant origin. Once or twice a week they should be supplemented with a protein source. The breeder Skyfish has developed a special shrimp food for this purpose, but also artemia euplii or another special protein food for shrimp is suitable. As plant food experienced breeders like to use scalded nettle leaves or green dried walnut leaves. As permanent food, brown autumn leaves or sea almond leaves are popularly used, which also provide tannins that support the shrimp during molting, for example.
Our food recommendation: NatureHolic's soft Mainfeed Softpads are designed for daily feeding. They contain all the nutrients shrimp need for shell development, egg formation and growth. During the production we pay attention to a gentle and environmentally friendly production, which preserves the vitamins and other valuable ingredients as much as possible.
Our plant recommendation: Use for planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planaria and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend for fish keeping the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
