Mi Oya water lily was named after the Mi Oya River in Sri Lanka, where this variant of Cryptocoryne wendtii was found and where it is endemic (i.e. lives only there). Cryptocoryne wendtii "Mi Oya" is a not so common Cryptocoryne, although it is very easy to keep and has attractive olive green to reddish brown, slightly textured, wavy leaves that look great as a contrast to green aquatic plants. The petioles are an intense purple, which again adds to the beautiful contrast. Cryptocoryne wendtii "Mi Oya" grows with up to 35 cm a little taller than other Cryptocorynes of the wendtii group and is suitable for the middle ground of rather larger aquariums or for the background in nano tanks, but also as a solitary plant in the nano.
Cryptocoryne wendtii "Mi Oya", which is quite fast growing for a water carnation, does not need strong lighting and is also not fussy about water hardness. Even without CO2 fertilization it still grows well, and it can also stand in the shade of deco and of higher plants.
Cryptocoryne wendtii "Mi Oya" forms runners on the rootstock. You can cut these off with sharp scissors and plant them elsewhere. This is an uncomplicated way to propagate the Mi Oya water lily.
Also the emerse culture of the Mi Oya water carnation is not complicated: with a nutrient-rich soil and sufficient humidity, everything the plant needs is already ready. Thus, it is perfect for keeping in wabi kusa, waterfall aquarium, aquaterrarium and wet terrarium.
As a snail-free and algae-free InVitro plant right from the start due to the cultivation method, Cryptocoryne wendtii "Mi Oya" is safe for shrimp and can be planted directly into the aquarium without quarantine. The culture medium should be rinsed from the roots, it is best to do this under running water. Be careful not to damage the roots in the process.
Our recommendation: For a splendid plant growth we recommend the use of the NatureHolic fertilizer series and for new set up the Premium Nutrient Substrate NatureHolic GroundBooster.
