Peat granulate as a filter medium is a great way to influence the aquarium water. Most animals kept in aquariums come from very acidic and soft habitats, which they should also find in the aquarium if possible, so that they feel well, do not fall ill and their readiness to spawn is supported. But also the mucous membranes are optimally protected, so that it is an ideal disease prophylaxis.

Above all, a low pH value is necessary for this. Besides various humic preparations that lower this, peat is also an ideal solution. The granules are compacted and thus enable a slow release of humic substances and valuable fulvic acids, which gradually have an effect on the water values. Thus, the total hardness and also the pH value are gradually lowered and stabilized. Therefore, it is ideal for so-called black water aquariums, because the pretty amber water color can also be achieved through this.

Put the peat granulate into a filter media bag or a net bag and stow it practically in the external filter, so that the peat flows through evenly and is ideally mixed with the aquarium water. In this way it is particularly effective. Of course, the peat bag can also be hung directly in the aquarium in a place where the water flows through it. In addition, the peat granulate is also suitable for freshly preparing changing water.

Peat granules are not suitable for African perch aquariums.
