Red Pinto Galaxy from Skyfish are crossbreeds of different shrimp species, all of which have contributed their part to the fantastic markings and deep, intense colors here. These Red Pinto Galaxy are bred in an incredible quality by Leon Su aka Skyfish from Taiwan. Stamped animals here included the beautiful bee shrimp (Caridina logemanni) and tiger shrimp (Caridina mariae) as well as Caridina cantonensis. All of these species occur naturally in southern China. The Red Pinto Galaxy is a cultivated form from aquaristics, which does not exist in nature - a hybrid of several species, which is why these dwarf shrimps are called Caridina sp.
The Red Pinto Galaxy has several variants. They all have in common the deep red as basic color and a white drawing pattern. Galaxy pattern is the term for the many small bright white markings, the Pinto pattern corresponds to a pied pattern.
Here you buy different breeding groups. In the Grade S the white markings are smaller, in the higher Grade SS you can see the white patterns especially well, and the animals are also especially well and opaque colored. In the Red Pinto Galaxy Zebra pattern variant, white short horizontal stripes on the abdomen are added. They do not reach to the lower edge of the segments. In the Red Pinto Galaxy Tiger variant, on the other hand, the white transverse stripes on the abdomen partially extend to the bottom. An extremely attractive pattern variant is the well-known Red Pinto Galaxy Fishbone, which has a herringbone pattern: Here the white stripes on the abdomen are joined by a pronounced dorsal stripe (fishbones are called fishbones in English).
Red Pinto Galaxy shrimp grow to a body size of 2 to about 3 cm, with the females being rather large and quite roundish, and the males somewhat smaller and quite slender. You can definitely recognize the females if they carry eggs under the abdomen - unfortunately you can't see the egg spot with the good, intense color coverage. Many females also have an enlarged second segment on the abdomen, the tiger scoop, which is absent in many males.
Red Pinto Galaxy shrimp require soft and slightly acidic water with little or no carbonate hardness. Plenty of oxygen and few germs in the water are also mandatory. A good, effective filter will keep water stress and germ density low. Unfortunately tap water is usually not suitable for keeping the somewhat demanding Skyfish Red Pinto Galaxy Dwarf Shrimp. Successful breeders of high breeding shrimp usually use demineralized water from a demineralizer or osmosis water, which they remineralize with bee salt. This special mineral salt for soft water shr imp only raises the total hardness and does not contain carbonate hardness. This so called Bee Salt can be bought here at Garnelio in the store.
The Red Pinto Galaxy Dwarf Shrimp does not tolerate high nitrate levels and should therefore not be kept in well fertilized planted aquariums. At least 20 liters of aquarium volume are necessary for this Caridina sp., a larger aquarium is of course also an option. The water temperature should not exceed 20 to 25 degrees even in summer, otherwise it will be too warm for the Red Pinto Galaxy shrimp. You may need an aquarium cooler in appropriate rooms during the warm season.
Active Soil is ideal for a breeding aquarium with high breeding shr imp. Such a soil suitable for shrimp is not pre-fertilized. Active Soil lowers the carbonate hardness and stabilizes the pH value in soft water optimally. In our Garnelio system we keep the Skyfish shrimp in salted osmosis water with a conductance of 250 microsiemens and a pH value slightly below 7.
In a breeding aquarium for the Skyfish Red Pinto Galaxy you should not plant too densely, if you want to select the shrimp later by color and pattern. Then a well arranged tank is better. However, a few plants are still appropriate so that the shrimp can hide and have more surfaces to graze on. Perching plants like bucephalandra or mosses are good. You attach them to small lava rocks or roots so you can easily remove them from the aquarium later when you want to sort the Red Pinto Galaxy offspring by color and pattern.
These Caridina sp. are somewhat susceptible to stress. Therefore we cannot recommend a socialization of the Red Pinto Galaxy shrimps with fish. An exception might be ear lattice catfish in a sufficiently large aquarium, but a species tank is usually the better choice for the beautiful Red Pinto Galaxys. Snails are not very suitable as tankmates, because these shrimps need very soft water. Many snails do not live long in it. A good clean-up troop, however, are shiny worms or Tubifex, which do not mind soft water and keep the substrate loose and clear away leftovers. Shrimp like to eat the worms, they are a good source of protein and a permanent live food source in the shrimp aquarium , so to speak. With Caridina shrimp such as Bee Shrimp, Tangerine Tiger or Tiger Shrimp, mixing and undesirable patterns will occur. If you want to breed the pattern of the Skyfish Red Pinto Galaxys pure, they should not be kept with other shrimp.
While the Skyfish Red Pinto Galaxy shrimp is a case for advanced shrimp keepers, it is of the specialized reproductive type and therefore relatively easy to get to reproduce under suitable conditions. Females carry 15-30 eggs under their abdomen, where they nurse them until hatching. The juvenile shrimp that hatch here are viable in freshwater and move immediately on their own, without a pelagic larval stage. Females carry eggs under the pleon for approximately four to six weeks.
Skyfish Red Pinto Galaxy shrimp are omnivorous, but should not be given too much protein - a good protein food or artemia euplii once or twice a week will suffice. Otherwise the food should be mainly vegetable. From Skyfish from Taiwan there is a special shrimp food, which is highly recommended. Dried green walnut leaves or scalded nettle leaves are good plant food for the shrimp, which can be supplemented with brown autumn leaves or a small sea almond leaf as permanent food. The tannins contained here have a very positive effect on the water and on the shrimp.
Our food recommendation: NatureHolic's soft Mainfeed Softpads are designed for daily feeding. They contain all the nutrients shrimp need for shell development, egg formation and growth. During the production we pay attention to a gentle and environmentally friendly production, which preserves the vitamins and other valuable ingredients as much as possible.
Our plant recommendation: Use for the planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planaria and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend for fish keeping the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
