The Demini Angelfish Hypancistrus sp. L 136 comes from the middle basin of the Brazilian Rio Negro. The Demini Angelfish is very variable in the size of the spots. Therefore a distinction is made between L 136a with a very fine dot pattern, the L 136b with fewer and somewhat larger dots and the L 136c with very large white dots. Under the dot pattern sometimes a darker stripe is still visible.
Also for this Hypancistrus the aquarium should not be overly bright and should beshaded with floating plants if necessary. Caves and shelters formed by stones and roots are also desirable hiding places as well as Catfish burrows. They contribute greatly to the well-being of the Demini Angelfish. An edge length of 80 cm is sufficient for a group of this loricariid catfish species from South America. Plants are only conditionally applicable. Although adult Hypancistrus sp. L 136 tend to leave them alone, the juveniles of this Hypancistrus like to go at them because they tend to feed on plants and consider soft-leaved aquarium plants a welcome change to their diet. Hard and bitter plants such as Anubias, ferns or Cryptocorynes tend not to be gnawed on as much.
If the conditions match its requirements. the breeding of this beautifully spotted loricariid is no problem. For stimulation the water in the aquarium is made softer by water changes(below 400 µS), the temperature may be 29°C and frequent water changes should be carried out. If you increase the current in the aquarium, this also favors spawning. Hypancistrus L 136 belong to the cave spawners, where the fry is guarded and cared for by the male. The fry are relatively easy to raise. They eat food tabs like the adult Angelfish, but in addition their diet should include vegetable food.
Hypancistrus sp. L136 should be kept in slightly acidic, soft to medium hard water. A water temperature of approximately 26-30 °C is considered ideal. The Demini Angelfish grows to 13 cm in length, making it somewhat larger.
Since loricariids are basically very peaceful aquarium fish, they can be kept very well in the community tank. The socialization with shrimps, snails, smaller tetras, danios or other smaller schooling fish and also with other catfish works very well.
Hypancistrus sp. L 136 are bottom-oriented omnivores that eat sinking food. In addition to catfish sticks and pellets, the fish are also very fond of live or frozen foods.
Our food recommendation: The NatureHolic Catfish Feed is a professionally formulated complete food especially for all sucking catfish. The food tabs contain important dietary fibers such as chitin and plant fibers, which are essential for the survival of catfish for a well-functioning digestion. With strong proteins from insect larvae as well as carbohydrate-rich vegetables NatureHolic Catfish Feed provides all sucking catfish optimally with all important building materials for a fast and healthy growth. The extra hard chips can be scraped off by the catfish close to nature - here they really have to do something for their food! An occupation like in nature.
Our plant recommendation: Use for the planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planarians and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend for fish keeping the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
