The Blue Moscow Guppy is a particularly beautiful color variant of the popular species Poecilia reticulata from South America. Guppies are also called million fish, because they are very robust and eager to reproduce. They are known to practically everyone in the hobby. Guppies are known for their very good reproduction. For this reason we offer you here in the store the possibility to buy a pure male group. In the bachelor group the guppies don't do anything, but they don't reproduce.
Blue Moscow Guppies have a beautiful dark blue color, which is silvery-light blue on the body and becomes darker, almost black, towards the outer edge of the caudal fin and the dorsal fin. Males of the Blue Moscow color pattern are more intensely colored than females of the same color. Guppy males reach a body length of about 7-8 cm. Their anal fin is remodeled into an elongated mating organ called a gonopodium, which is a good way to recognize males.
Poecilia reticulata is a live-bearing tooth carp. Guppies hybridize with Endler Guppies, which are very closely related to them, and the young from this mating are again fertile and can give birth to hybrids. Endler and Guppies should rather not be kept together in the aquarium for this reason. Guppies can be socialized very well with other peaceful aquarium fish, provided the requirements are similar. If you keep a group of male and female guppies, it is not wrong to use a fish that can eat some of the young (small tetras are suitable here, for example). Guppies will also eat their own young, but it is still possible for mass reproduction to occur. This problem does not even arise if you decide for a pure male group. Socialization with dwarf shrimp, which reproduce well, with large shrimp such as amano shrimp or fan shrimp can work well. Crayfish, on the other hand, can injure or kill guppies sleeping on the bottom, so socialization should be discouraged.
Adult female guppies can give birth to 20 live fry per litter. A good planting is helpful, then significantly more fry come up. Here with us you can also buy blue Guppy females (Poecilia reticulata "Blue), which fit to the Moscow Blue Guppies - if you want to breed.
Guppies have a superior mouth and like to eat at the water surface - biofilms, approach food, algae coverings. They also take soft plant material such as vegetables or leafy gre ens, in the aquarium they can be fed very easily for example with guppy food such as NatureHolic Guppyfeed, other commercial flakes or granulated foods for omnivores in the aquarium are also suitable. Live and frozen foods are also popular with guppies.
Poecilia reticulata lives in the natural biotopes in medium to hard water and even in the brackish water of estuaries. Soft to hard water is therefore no problem for Guppies. A water temperature of 22-28 °C in the aquarium is optimal for Guppies.
Our feed recommendation: The fragrant NatureHolic Guppyfeed was tailor-made for the requirements of guppies and other viviparous fish in the aquarium. In addition to high-quality animal ingredients, it also contains vegetable components that benefit guppies & co. The soft granules protect the sensitive mouth of the livebearers from injuries caused by hard food grains and provide the fish with a natural feeding experience.
Our plant recommendation: Use for the planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planarians and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend for fish keeping the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
