De*nitrate works similarly to reef rocks in nature by anaerobic denitrification. When filtering, anaerobic conditions are achieved due to porosity and lack of oxygen due to the aerobic process at the surface. Therefore, the flow rate should be rather low in order not to hinder the activity of denitrifying bacteria.
Application: Use 500 ml of de*nitrate to 100-200 liters of water and rinse before first use to remove transport-related abrasion. Place de*nitrate in a slowly flushed location in the filter. After only a few days, the nitrate concentration should have decreased noticeably; remeasure the values regularly. If initially very high nitrate values were present, these should be reduced to less than 20 mg/L by a water change.
