The Dwarf Gourami Neon is thanks to its great color a class eye-catcher in the aquarium, which stands out great especially between green water plants. Scientifically it is also called Colisa lalia and is a breeding variant of the wild form, which originate from Indian rivers such as the Ganges, the Indus and Brahmpatura. You can keep these great labyrinths in groups, but also in pairs and even breed them. Especially for beginners it is a great alternative, they can live up to 4 years.
With just 6 cm they do not grow too big and are rather peaceful representatives, which you can keep already from 54 liters. Make sure that your lighting is not too bright and that the substrate is not reflective. With floating plants you can provide some shade. Place dense plants at the edge and in the background, because this is where they like to retreat to rest. Pay attention to good water values and use humic substances, which you can introduce well with alder cones or sea almond leaves. Because your animals have a laybrinth organ, they rise to the water surface for gas exchange. Therefore, always keep this freely accessible and cover the aquarium.
The most striking feature is probably their elongated and thread-like pectoral fins, which gave them their name. They even use them to scan the substrate or other accompanying fish. Therefore you should not socialize fin nibbling or even other labyrinth fish with them. Especially the male looks much more colorful, especially at mating time, but you can also tell them apart by their pointed dorsal fin, which is more rounded in the female.
Because they are quite peaceful, you can also socialize them with other friendly and calm fish, also dwarf shrimps or Amano shrimps are suitable. However, it is better to avoid crayfish, because they can catch and injure your darlings by their long threads. Loricariids, tetras or other danios are a good alternative.
Breeding is also possible in the aquarium, your animals will then start to build a foam nest on the water surface. Usually they use floating plants for this purpose. After mating the male collects the eggs with his mouth and spits them into the foam nest. In addition, he guards the clutch and performs brood care. If you put your animals in a rearing tank for this purpose, the rate of hatchlings will be the highest. You can feed the larvae with rotifers and later with nauplii.
Our food recommendation: With the NatureHolic BettaFeed a special food for fighting fish has been tailor-made, whose soft soft granules resemble the consistency of insect larvae in nature. The soft beads protect the sensitive fish mouth from micro-cracks caused by too hard food granules. The specially developed NH Immun+ complex as well as the NH Color+ high-performance additive support the immune system and the magnificent color formation of the fish.
Our plant recommendation: Use for planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planaria and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend when keeping fish the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
