Betta splendens, the so called fighting fish, originates from Asia and enjoys increasing popularity in aquaristics due to its easy keeping. Originally, the Betta splendens was domesticated for fish fights due to its natural high aggression potential towards other (fighting) fish, which unfortunately still enjoys great popularity in the Thai tradition. Kafis can be kept quite uncomplicated even by beginners.
Here you can get a female crested fighting fish. Males can also be found in the store.
The Kammschwanz, or colloquially also called Combtail, is actually a Crowntail. However, it differs in that the skin between its fin rays is not fully formed back, which is why only the fin edges appear pointed. Females are a bit smaller and less finned than males, but you can also tell them apart by their genital papilla. You can keep females together as a group of girls, but avoid male company, otherwise they will live up to their name.
Due to its relatively easy rebreeding as well as the meanwhile more and more increasing colorful and changeable breeding forms and the rather low keeping requirements it is a popular labyrinth fish the Comb Tail is one of them. Fighting fish males are characterized above all by their partly very large fin forms and their bright colors. This strict loner can become very trusting if you give it enough attention- and mosquito larvae- .
Because of its habitat and territorial behavior, the fighting fish can be kept alone in an aquarium. In a community aquarium it will claim a territory of 30-40 cm, which it will regularly swim off and defend against fellow fish. Usually it will not seriously attack or injure them, but will clearly threaten them. Due to its large fins, this tires it out quite quickly and gives it a correspondingly short life, which is why it shouldpreferably be kept alone . Fighting fishes donot like any glaring lighting and thus no bright, reflective bottom grounds, so that their aquarium may be quite densely weedy just in the middle and upper water zone and rather half-shady, but still leaves enough space to breathe.
It is already possible to keep it with adult dwarf shrimps , but no offspring will develop here and from the shrimps is usually rather little to see, because they hide permanently and are possibly even eaten. The socialization with snails is conditionally possible - the Betta is curious and will possibly also examine these for taste.
The carnivorous fighting fish can be fed mainly with Live food like white mosquito larvae. Most can be switched to special Betta food and fed rather sparingly, but more often so that it does not fall off and rot on the bottom.
Our food recommendation: With the NatureHolic BettaFeed a special food for fighting fish was tailor-made, whose soft granules remind of the consistency of insect larvae in nature. The soft beads protect the sensitive fish mouth from micro-cracks caused by too hard food grains. The specially developed NH Immun+ complex as well as the NH Color+ high-performance additive support the immune system and the magnificent color formation of the fish.
Our plant recommendation: Use for planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planaria and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend when keeping fish the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
