The Black Samurai is one of the most interesting high-bred varieties from the fighting fish faction. In contrast to its relatives from the splendens-group the Samurai is not so easy in its demands, so you should try a little bit more for it.
Here you get an adult Black Samurai poster female, which corresponds with deviations to the picture. Matching males can also be found in the store.
Samurai means the intense coloration and density of scales, poster means the short fins.
Originally the wild bettathe ancestor of all fighting fishes, originates from stagnant and little moved, rather oxygen-poor waters of Southeast Asiaaround the Islands around Bali to Indonesia over the Mailai peninsula to Laos, Vietnam, Myanmar, Thailand and Cambodia. Due to these unreal living conditions it has developed a labyrinth organ with which it practices gas exchange on the water surface. Your water surface should therefore always be freely accessible.
If you have accustomed him reasonably, you can maintain your Betta also alone without aeration starting from 60 liters. Allow him dense plants in places, which are quiet a bit weedy, so that he feels comfortable. For a community aquarium the Black Samurai is not a good choice, but you can keep females in a group, if there is no male. Also choose a dark substrate and dim the lighting a bit, because it doesn't like glaring conditions and stresses your pet.
We do not recommend a socialization of the Black Samurai. Shrimps may eat him, crayfish could pinch him dangerously and hurt him badly or even catch and eat him. Also other Laybrinther or Longfin are not so well suitable and cause stress with him.
Breeding is relatively easy, because they build foam nests and do an interesting brood care. After the mating act you should separate the female from the male again, otherwise it will live up to its name. You can also find a breeding report in our blog. However, think in advance how you can get rid of the more than 100 young animals later, because at a certain point you should separate them and keep them separately, too, before the youngsters hit each other on the head.
The carnivorous fighting fish can be fed mainly with Live food like white mosquito larvae. Most can be switched to special Betta food and fed rather sparingly, but more often, so that it does not fall off and rot on the bottom.
Our food recommendation: With the NatureHolic BettaFeed a special food for fighting fish was tailor-made, whose soft granules remind of the consistency of insect larvae in nature. The soft beads protect the sensitive fish mouth from micro-cracks caused by too hard food granules. The specially developed NH Immun+ complex as well as the NH Color+ high-performance additive support the immune system and the magnificent color formation of the fish.
Our plant recommendation: Use for planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free from snails, planaria and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend when keeping fish the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
