Originally from India and Thailand, the Indian Glass Perch is mainly found in fresh and brackish water in its habitat. With its glassy appearance it inspires every observer, because it allows the view of its organs. Scientifically also called Changa ranga, this fish belongs to the glass perch family, which in turn includes over 50 species. Therefore, Changa ranga can be confused with other species at first sight. In the Aquairum it can be maintained well and is not particularly fastidious.
You get animals in a size about 4 cm.
With a final size of about 8 cm it does not grow very large, its transparent body exposes its spine and internal organs. The mouth is terminal. It is rather flat in stature and has a high back with a dorsal fin divided into two parts, the first of which is pointedly extended. The second dorsal fin and also the anal fin are also extended. Depending on the incidence of light, the Indian glass perch has a silvery to greenish sheen.
Breeding in the aquarium is possible, especially roots of floating plants are preferred, on which the animals lay their eggs. Usually the adults do not chase the offspring, so they do not have to be raised separately. However, the young should be fed with very fine live food such as infusoria and slipper animals, which will later be eaten by Nauplii and Artemia can be replaced later. It is helpful for successful rearing if the young are "put into the food".
Indian Glass Perch are sociable animals, which derive their strength from the group size, therefore they should be kept in groups between 8-10 animals, so that they do not become lonely and show their typical social behavior. Your aquarium should be at least 80 liters, rather more. With other fishes in their size and with the same requirements to the water values they can be socialized very well. Their water should have a maximum of 15 °dGH, as well as a pH value of 6.5-7.5. They feel most comfortable at 24-28 °C.
The pretty Indian glass perch makes no demands on the furnishings or substrate, but the aquarium should be planted in places, but still have enough swimming space. Also with Floating plants like Frogbit or Duckweed shaded corners he prefers to retreat and recover.
The carnivorous Indian Glass Perch can be fed in the aquarium with live and frozen food such as daphnia, artemia or other food, although it prefers live food. It can also be accustomed to an ornamental fish food for carnivorous species such as our Natureholic CichFeed, although small-grained granules are more readily accepted.
Our food recommendation: NatureHolic Cichfeed is a prime staple food for all carnivorous cichlids in the aquarium, perfectly meeting their requirements for food composition. The tasty pearls are also very well eaten by larger cichlids. Thanks to their soft texture, NatureHolic Cichfeed food pearls are gentle on the mouth and can be eaten very well by the fish.
Our plant recommendation: Use for planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planarians and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend for fish keeping the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
