Shrimps in particular, but also small snails, like the smallest particles and are only too happy to crawl into the aquarium filter; young animals also run the risk of being sucked in. Most of the time this incident does not have a good end. With the suction protection made of filter sponge, however, you can now actively prevent this. The suction protection is simply pulled over the suction pipe of your aquarium filter and prevents fish young, shrimps or snails from being sucked into the filter.

The filter sponge also serves as a pre-filter, retaining coarse dirt particles such as leaves, dead plant parts, but also suspended matter, thus extending the service life of the filter, the cleaning interval is shifted backwards. Shrimps use the increased filter area to nibble down the biofilm.

From time to time the suction protection should be cleaned. For this purpose, the filter is best unplugged so that no animal can be sucked in during cleaning. The sponge is simply pulled off, rinsed out and put back on. Once a year, however, it should also be replaced completely in order to maintain a good filter result in the long term.
