JBL Zanzibar WHITE 10kg

The fine sand of the snow-white Zanzibar White from JBL is ideal as a substrate in freshwater or marine aquariums, but also in aquaterrariums or terrariums. Especially in aquascaping , it can be used to create wonderful accents and effects. This is a great way to imitate small streets or waterfalls. Due to the enlarged surface, the Sansibar white also serves as a useful filter medium, because denitrifying bacteria settle on it and contribute to the breakdown of pollutants in the aquarium.

Thanks to the very fine grain size of 0.2-0.6 mm , waste and mulm can seep in only with difficulty or not at all, thus effectively preventing gamma spots and enabling vital plant growth . In addition, the fine rounded granite sand is gentle on the sensitive barbels of bottom-dwelling fish such as catfish and is also ideal for keeping mussels.

With the help of a nutrient substrate, as we offer in our store, you can also give your aquatic plants an extra boost. Simply place it under your chosen substrate and benefit from maximum plant growth, which enriches the aquarium water with vital oxygen and also inhibits the formation of algae. You should consider this before setting up a new aquarium, otherwise you would have to disassemble the entire aquarium again afterwards.

We recommend this substrate setup:
Fill in approx. 2 cm of nutrient substrate and then cover with at least 3 cm of gravel/sand.

Before first use, the sand should be washed out several times with cold water to remove abrasion caused by transport. We rather advise against using it with underfloor heating cable, as no proper water circulation can occur.
