In the open tubes shrimp and dwarf crayfish find cover and protection - important especially after a moult, while the animals are still soft, and for pregnant females. Especially the territorial dwarf crayfish need a place where they can retreat from their conspecifics. Hiding places reduce stress in the aquarium and ensure a higher number of offspring.
The outside surface offers not only shrimps additional grazing grounds due to the biofilms that settle here, these biofilms also ensure good water quality because they are preferably colonized by bacteria that break down pollutants.
The shrimp tower is well suited for tying up mosses or perching plants such as Anubias or Bucephalandra.
