from over 3,000 reviews "The name of the nase, which is native to rivers in Central Europe, is program: older Chondrostoma nasus have a nose-like projection on the mouth. Noses are also called Näsling, Schnabel or Speier and are valued food fish. Naselings have a silvery body and reddish fins. Adult specimens grow to over 40 cm in the pond. Nase belong to the carp fishes and are sociable schooling fishes that feel comfortable only in a larger group of 5 specimens or more. Nase live bottom-oriented.
Because nase actually prefer flowing waters, the fish should only be housed in large garden ponds of 6000 liters or more with very clean and oxygen-rich water. An oxydator for the pond can provide additional O2 in the oxygen supply, and a powerful, large-sized pond filter is required. There must be good flow in the garden pond with nase. A rather moderate pond planting is optimal for nase. They have a very hard mouth with a horny lower lip, with which they scrape algae and biofilms from stones in the pond, which should be offered to them.
Because the nase is native to our area outdoors, it can be kept outside year-round in a deep enough pond 1-1.30 m deep or more. The pond should not freeze over completely so that adequate oxygen exchange is always possible. An ice free holder is therefore a useful addition for wintering snouts in the garden pond.
In the field, the nase develops a strong migratory instinct during the spawning season in spring and early summer and migrates in shoals many hundreds of kilometers upstream against the current. In the garden pond this is naturally not possible, and reproduction of nase in the pond is thus very unlikely.
Noses are omnivores, they eat plant as well as animal food. In addition to algae deposits and biofilms, Chondrostoma nasus also eat insect larvae, worms and crustaceans. The interesting spouts can also be accustomed to flake food for pond fish.
