The dwarf spear leaf Anubias barteri var. nana is a perching plant. Here it is attached to a root that can be attached to the aquarium pane with a suction cup, which is an optimal way of keeping Anubias. With the small, rather round, dark green leaflets on the short petioles, this Anubias is very attractive. Anubias barteri var. nana has a very slow growth and can also flower under water.
Since the dwarf spear leaf has very hard foliage, it is spurned by most herbivores and can therefore be used in perch tanks, for example. It copes well in shade and under low light as well as under stronger lighting.
Its propagation is quite uncomplicated: To do so, simply separate a piece of the thick green rhizome on which the leaves grow. Make sure there are at least two leaflets on each piece.
Please never insert Anubias barteri var. nana into the substrate, it is imperative that the rhizome remains uncovered so that it does not begin to rot.
Anubias barteri var. nana can also be used beautifully in humid environments above the water level, such as in an aquaterrarium or paludarium.
