Garnelio Small Frogbite (Limnobium laevigatum) from South America is a beautiful, robust floating plant with rounded lush green leaves. Ideal in aquariums without a cover, where you can also see the fine light green flowers that form after some time. Also suitable for covered aquariums, provided the plants are not too close to the light then. Condensation does not bother them much. Frogbite forms fine long brightly colored root beards that look extremely attractive and provide shrimp and surface fish with shelter and hiding places. Optimal for foam nesting labyrith fish. The leaves grow 1-5 cm above the water surface, provided the plants receive sufficient nutrients and are illuminated with medium to intense light.
Frogbit, as an exceptionally good nutrient consumer, ensures good water values. As with all floating plants, its growth is not limited by carbon dioxide, which is only present to a limited extent in the water, as Limnobium laevigatum can draw on CO2 from the air. This is an effective way to prevent algae infestations. Furthermore, the Small Frogbiss is ideal to shade the aquarium a little bit, giving security to shy fish and shrimps.
The Small Frogbite reproduces by daughter plants, which it sprouts from the base on longer stems. They are simply cut off.
