The three-banded Corydoras trilineatus, very popular in aquaristics, comes from fast-flowing rivers in the middle reaches of the Amazon in South America. The short-snouted three-banded Corydoras trilineatus has three striking longitudinal stripes along its body: silver - black - silver. Otherwise, its silvery body is covered by a dark stripe pattern and dot pattern that extends into the fins. The short mouth of Corydoras trilineatus has the typical pairs of barbels.
The males of Corydoras trilineatus are only about 5 cm in size. The females become with up to 6 cm somewhat larger and are also clearly thicker. The three-banded Corydoras trilineatus is a sociable group fish and should not be kept under 5-10 specimens. The Three-banded Corydoras lives bottom-oriented and rather in the lower water layers, although it must as intestine breathers now and then to the surface.
Corydoras trilineatus is a very peaceful and compatible aquarium fish, both with conspecifics and with other small, peaceful aquarium fish such as guppies, danios or tetras, for example. Shrimps also have nothing to fear from the three-banded Corydoras, even though it cannot be completely ruled out that careless juveniles that walk right in front of the small Corydoras' mouths might not be eaten. Crayfish, on the other hand, can hurt or even eat Corydoras trilineatus, and since the Dreibinden Corydoras live in the same aquarium area, difficulties are inevitable.
The Dreibinden Corydoras trilineatus is successfully bred in aquaristics. However, this does not work in the community tank, you need a separate breeding aquarium. If the fish get rich live food and frozen food , their readiness to spawn will be stimulated. A cooler water change simulates the rainy season and thereupon the courtship season usually begins in the trilinear corydoras. The female of Corydoras trinileatus sticks up to 100 strongly sticky eggs individually to surfaces in the aquarium. The very small larvae hatch after a few days and should then be separated from the parents, this increases the survival rate. The young corys are fed with Artemia nauplii.
The three-banded Corydoras can live up to 10 years with good care. At a water temperature of 22-27 °C Corydoras trilineatus can be kept optimally in soft to medium hard water and a pH between 6 and 7. The aquarium should have for a small group from 54 liters volume. In sandy substrate, the Corydoras like to burrow and chew the bottom for fine food. If a sandy substrate is not possible or not desired, you should at least give the fish a Sand corner set up. The three-line armored catfish need many hiding places in the aquarium.
The Three-banded Cory is an omnivore, preferring animal food such as grindal or other live food and also frozen food . Algae is also eaten, as well as special food tabs for armored catfish and of course the usual normal flake food or granulated food for omnivorous aquarium fish.
Our food recommendation: The NatureHolic Catfish Feed is a professionally prepared complete food especially for all sucking catfish. The food tabs contain important dietary fibers such as chitin and plant fibers, which are essential for the survival of catfish for a well-functioning digestion. With strong proteins from insect larvae as well as carbohydrate-rich vegetables NatureHolic Catfish Feed provides all sucking catfish optimally with all important building materials for a fast and healthy growth. The extra hard chips can be scraped off by the catfish close to nature - here they really have to do something for their food! An occupation like in nature.
Our plant recommendation: Use for planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planaria and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
