The dotted silver stripe Corydoras agassizii from South America has in the body center the name-giving silvery longitudinal stripe. In places the dots also merge to a stripe pattern. The silver stripe Corydoras agassizii has a more or less pronounced dark spot around the eye and a somewhat larger black spot at the base of the dorsal fin, which extends along the first ray up to the tip. The mouth of Corydoras agassizii is adorned with the typical pairs of barbels.
Male Corydoras agassizii are not only slightly smaller at 5 cm, but also slimmer than females at about 7 cm. As a group fish, the sociable silver streak Corydoras agassizii likes to live with 5-10 conspecifics in a group. Agassizis Cory is a bottom dweller and therefore stays mainly in the lower water layers, where it digs in the substrate for food. Since it is a gut breather like all Corydoras, it must be able to reach the water surface at all times.
The peaceful and compatible Corydoras agassizii is a great fish for community aquariums with other peaceful small fish and also with larger Harnisch catfish Shrimps agassizis Corydoras agassizii will not become dangerous, although it cannot be completely ruled out that a particularly careless juvenile could be accidentally eaten once. Crayfish can severely injure Corydoras agassizii, and since the armored catfishes inhabit the same aquarium area, conflicts are unfortunately pre-programmed here.
The silver stripe armored catfish can be bred quite easily in a separate breeding aquarium, in the community tank the armored catfish larvae rather do not come up. Before starting the animals are first conditioned with rich live food and frozen food , then a significantly cool water change with soft water initiates the spawning season - simulating the beginning of the rainy season. The eggs stick strongly and are laid by the female on glass, plants, roots and so on. After 5-6 days the fish larvae hatch, which can be fed with Artemia nauplii. The parent fish must be removed from the breeding aquarium before hatching.
The silver stripe corydoras can live up to 10 years. At an aquarium temperature of 22-27 °C it can be kept perfectly in soft to medium hard water. The pH should be between 6 and 8 for Corydoras agassizii to feel comfortable. The aquarium should have 54 liters or more and asandy bottom or at least a sandy corner, because Corydoras agassizii like to dig for fine food and chew through the bottom. Many hiding places in the aquarium are mandatory.
The Silver Striped Cory is an omnivore with a clear preference for animal food such as (sinking) live food or frozen food. Special food tabs for armored catfish and also the normal flake food or granulated food for omnivorous aquarium fish are suitable.
Our food recommendation: The NatureHolic Catfish Feed is a professionally formulated complete food especially for all sucking catfish. The food tabs contain important dietary fibers such as chitin and plant fibers, which are essential for the survival of catfish for a well-functioning digestion. With strong proteins from insect larvae as well as carbohydrate-rich vegetables NatureHolic Catfish Feed provides all sucking catfish optimally with all important building materials for a fast and healthy growth. The extra hard chips can be scraped off by the catfish close to nature - here they really have to do something for their food! An occupation like in nature.
Our plant recommendation: Use for planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planaria and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend for fish keeping the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
