Floscopa scandens originates from Southeast Asia, where it lives mainly in swamps emersed or semi-submerged. It can also be kept under water, provided it gets medium to strong light, a good supply of CO2 and sufficient nutrients. Then the submersely quite slow growing Floscopa scandens grows about 30-50 cm high and thus fits nicely in the middle ground to background. Untrimmed, this aquarium plant also grows out of the water.
Floscopa scandens is propagated by cuttings. To do this, cut off shoots and stick them into the ground 3-4 cm apart, where they soon take root.
However, it is much easier to grow Floscopa scandens as a semi-emerged plant in a wetland terrarium or even on the transition from the water part to the land part in a larger waterfall aquarium, aquaterrarium or paludarium. This way the Floscopa grows much faster, provided it is placed on relatively nutrient-rich soil such as Soil. Floscopa stems grown on the terrestrial part do not grow upright anymore after a certain length, but prostrate.
Floscopa scandens can even be cultivated as a normal houseplant after a period of adaptation. Emers grown Floscopa can come to flower. The plant blooms in a delicate shade of purple.
As an in vitro plant this Floscopa scandens is an absolutely pest-free, toxin-free and parasite-free stem plant for aquarium and planted terrarium. It may be immediately introduced into stocked tanks without the risk of introducing undesirable organisms such as algae or pathogens. The nutrient gel on the roots should be rinsed off as well as possible beforehand.
