As the name Rotala rotundifolia - Round-leaved Rotala - suggests, this Rotala species has relatively rounded leaves in land form. In the aquarium submerged, however, they are rather elongated. This classic aquarium plant originally comes from the Asian region. It is found there in swamps and rice paddies as well as partly above, partly under water on the banks of streams. The rather undemanding Rotala rotundifolia is predominantly green, but can take on reddish hues when growing under strong light. Under less light, it remains mostly green, showing reddish hues only at the shoot tips. Low nitrate, relatively high phosphate and a good supply of iron, together with strong light, cause great color games over pink to orange or even yellow. The shoots of the Rotala stem plant grow 20 to 80 cm long, which makes it a great background plant in the aquarium. Rotala rotundifolia does not necessarily need an aquarium with CO2 fertilization.
In mild winters, Rotala rotundifolia can even survive outdoors in a deep enough garden pond. Temperatures from 4 °C to about 30 °C are tolerated without problems.
The genus Rotala is a strong nutrient consumer, which grows very fast and can thus be used successfully against algae.
As a Natureholic InVitro plant, this Rotala is grown in the laboratory, so it is guaranteed not to contain foreign organisms such as small animals or algae, nor have pesticides been used. It can therefore be planted directly into the aquarium without separate watering, after carefully rinsing the culture medium from the roots.
From time to time, stem plant groups should be rejuvenated, including Rotala rotundifolia. To do this, simply cut them at This Rotala rotundifolia is rejuvenated as follows: Simply cut the group at 2/3 height, remove the older parts of the plant from the aquarium and replant the cut shoot tips in the substrate. They will sprout fresh roots and grow very quickly. Rotala rotundifolia is also propagated in the same way: pinch off side shoots or shoot tips and stick them into the substrate.
Our recommendation: For a splendid plant growth, we recommend the premium nutrient medium for the new setup NatureHolic GroundBooster
