from over 3,000 reviews "The marine hard coral Seriatopora hystrix "Purple" is also called purple spiny bush coral thanks to its fine structure. The particularly filigree structured SPS stony coral shows great shades of purple, especially with a lot of light and good current. Seriatopora hystrix occurs in nature in the Indo-Pacific. Blue light components in the illumination support the spiny bush coral in the formation of its color pigments.
Seriatopora hystrix "Purple" are relatively robust for SPS stony corals and are well suited for beginners in coral keeping. This beautiful filigree coral forms the most intense color tones with good light intensity and water values in the optimal range.
The purple spiny bush coral Seriatopora hystrix "Purple" grows quite fast under good conditions and should not get too big. You can simply divide it before that happens. If the Spiny Bush Coral gets too big, the coral cane can die from the inside out because there is not enough light and current getting to the center. Large purple spiny bush corals should be supported by the use of a wavebox.
The sections produced by the division are attached to the reef with coral glue for propagation of the spiny bush coral.
The Spiny Bush Coral Seriatopora hystrix "Purple" should be placed in a marine aquarium of 150 liters or larger. This pretty stony coral needs medium to strong light and a decent current. Seriatopora hystrix "Purple" is a candidate for the medium to upper area of your reef.
Feed Seriatopora hystrix "Purple" in a saltwater aquarium - if necessary - with fine plant and animal plankton.
