The Red Eye Albino Shrimp comes from India and is also called Indian Albino Dwarf Shrimp because of its interesting and special coloring. Especially on a dark background the albino dwarf shrimp sets beautiful accents with its rather unusual coloration: The transparent whitish animals have bright red to red-orange eyes. According to breeders from Asia this Caridina cf. babaulti is the albino variety of the zebra shrimp Caridina cf. babaulti "Stripes".
As with other shrimp with orange eyes, the Indian Albino Dwarf Shrimp are not blind, but on the contrary see very well, especially at night. During the day, an aquarium with somewhat dim light has proven to be good, because due to the non-existing dark pigments in the compound eyes, the animals can be rather blinded by strong light.
In a planted tank the Indian albino shrimp is a bit less visible due to its restrained coloration. With a size of two to four centimeters, the females of the Indian Albino Dwarf Shrimp tend to be somewhat larger than other dwarf shrimp in the aquarium. From experience, the males of the Albino Red Eye Shrimp remain somewhat smaller. They are also not quite as beefy as the females.
This dwarf shrimp is absolutely peaceful, therefore the Indian Albino Shrimp can be socialized without any problems, provided that the demands on the water values of the aquarium mates match. Since the larvae of the Indian Red Eye Albino Shrimp are likely to be very small initially, and due to the rarity of these rare beauties, however, we definitely advise a species tank.
Theoretically, the Indian Red Eye Albino Shrimp can also be kept with small, peaceful fish, with other shrimp or even with snails and mussels. In a community tank, lots of hiding places in the form of moss cushions, foliage and fine plants are definitely beneficial.
When feeding the Indian Red Eye Albino is uncomplicated: In the aquarium, as in nature, the dwarf shrimp prefers to graze on biofilms, areas of algae and brown autumn leaves. In the aquarium, it also seeks out food scraps. Feeding the Indian albino shrimp with our special shrimp food is advantageous. In addition to the predominantly vegetable diet, we recommend a good, high-quality protein food especially for dwarf shrimp for protein supplementation, fed twice a week.
The relationship of the Indian Red Eye Albino Shrimp with the zebra shrimp Caridina cf. babaulti "Zebra" suggests that the females carry 50 to 80 relatively small eggs under their abdomen for about four weeks and perform brood care. Caridina cf. babaulti belongs to the "partially abbreviated type". From their eggs hatch small larvae, which survive in fresh water and after a few days moult to the young shrimp. Then the offspring of the Indian Red Eye Albino Dwarf Shrimp looks like a miniature version of their parents.
The larvae of Caridina cf. babaulti take very fine food. Some mulm on the aquarium bottom helps them to find food. In the breeding aquarium of Caridina cf. babaulti "Indian Red Eye Albino" it is essential to secure the filter so that the small larvae floating in the water are not sucked in!
Our food recommendation: NatureHolic's soft mainfeed softpads are designed for daily feeding. They contain all the nutrients shrimp need for shell development, egg formation and growth. During the production we pay attention to a gentle and environmentally friendly production, where the vitamins and other valuable ingredients are preserved as much as possible.
Our plant recommendation: Use for planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planaria and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend for fish keeping the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
