The Royal Blue Tiger Shrimp has a very intense dark blue coloration, which makes the animals look almost black. Particularly striking are the bright, often bright orange colored eyes, which contrast beautifully with the deep blue body. The Royal Blue Tiger is a high breeding form of the Tiger Shrimp (Caridina mariae), although it does not have visible stripes. The females grow to about three inches and have a beefy body shape, the males remain a little smaller and also slimmer.
A socialization with peaceful fish and snails usually succeeds very well. If you socialize the Royal Blue Tiger Shrimp with other shrimp, you should make sure that the different species do not interbreed to avoid hybrids.
Royal Blue Tiger Shrimp can be kept in tanks from 12 liters volume, although we recommend aquariums from 20 l size especially for beginners. The Royal Blue Tiger Shrimp prefers rather soft, slightly acidic water, the carbonate hardness may well have a value of 2 or 3 degrees. Heating is not necessary, on the contrary, in summer you should possibly think about cooling, because temperatures above 25 °C are not well tolerated.
As an omnivore, the Royal Blue Tiger accepts almost any food without problems. It is especially recommended to give a suitable protein food twice a week and otherwise feed rather vegetable. Brown autumn leaves are an excellent permanent food that belongs in every invertebrate aquarium due to its positive properties.
The royal blue tiger shrimp is relatively easy to breed if conditions are right for them. The females release about 20 to 40 young shrimp after a gestation period of three to four weeks. The parents do not strongly pursue the offspring. To keep the color strong, it is recommended to select from time to time.
