Veiltail - Carassius auratus auratus
Our veiltails are beautiful long-finned goldfish, but their fins are not so exaggerated that they would strongly hinder the fish from swimming. The bright golden orange color of the fish makes them a gigantic eye-catcher in the garden pond. The veiltail form of the goldfish is a very old breeding form from China with a very long tradition. In their country of origin, goldfish stand for wealth and luck. - Garnelio
Description

These beautiful long-finned veiltail goldfish are orange. Their bipartite caudal fin can be smaller or larger in proportion to their body. Veiltail goldfish have a stockier body shape than other goldfish. The long-finned veiltail form was bred in China over 500 years ago. Veiltail goldfish belong to the species Carassius auratus auratus. Originally goldfish are descended from the Chinese silver crucian carp. Here in the store you can buy veiltail goldfish with a length of 4-6, 6-9, 9-12 or 12-15 cm. Adult veiltail goldfish can reach a length of up to 20-25 cm in the garden pond.

Veil tails are a bit more in need of warmth than other varieties of goldfish. Therefore, regardless of its depth, veiltail goldfish should not necessarily be overwintered in the garden pond. A large unheated aquarium where the water temperature is at least 13 °C is more suitable. A garden pond for veiltail goldfish should have a volume of at least 4 cubic meters for 5 of the beautiful long-finned goldfish and be placed in partial shade. A water temperature up to 24 °C is optimal.

As a group fish with an active social life, the veiltail goldfish needs a group of conspecifics to feel really comfortable. The group should contain at least 5 goldfish . The coloration is not so important.

Like all carp, veiltail goldfish are relatively hungry omnivores that like to eat insect larvae - including the larvae of pesky mosquitoes in the pond. Worms and small crustaceans are also on their menu, as well as algae cover and dying plants. Soft foliage of aquatic plants is also sometimes nibbled by goldfish.

In a lightly stocked goldfish pond, the food that the veiltails find may be sufficient; in a more heavily stocked pond, you should feed your goldfish treasures additional goldfish food. Please always give only as much food as is eaten within about five minutes to avoid high water pollution of the pond water. When water temperatures are high in the summer, you should introduce additional oxygen into the goldfish pond water with the help of an oxydator for garden p onds or with an air pump.

Goldfish can be bred quite well in the garden pond. In spring, when the water temperatures start to rise again, the time when goldfish start to mate begins. The female spawns in open water and the male fertilizes the sinking eggs. Because veiltail goldfish predate on both spawn and fish larvae, orange longfin goldfish do not reproduce well in deep ponds. In a pond with an extensive shallow water zone, however, successful breeding of veiltail goldfish is quite possible. If the shallow water zone is overgrown with many aquatic plants, the young fish can easily take cover here until they have grown to a size where the older goldfish can no longer pose such a threat to them.

By the way, in their youth, goldfish are more or less monochromatic dark at first. It is only after about two years that their beautiful golden-orange coloration develops. Goldfish can live from 20 to 40 years if kept well.
