Cold water plants mix - Terracottaring - Dennerle

For the background of cold water aquariums and also for your garden pond you buy here the appropriate plants that grow well even at cool temperatures. For a wonderful underwater world, the company Dennerle has put together 5 specimens mixed from waterweed (Egeria densa),  Limnophila sessiliflora and pennywort (Lysimachia nummularia "Aurea"). The optimal water temperature for this plant mix is 10 to 28 °C.

Waterweed (Egeria densa) grows quickly and thus prevents unwanted algae growth. It needs pruning more often. The flowering stemless marsh fern (Limnophila sessiliflora) with its medium green leaflets is a fast growing stem plant and an optimal alternative to the much more demanding Cabomba. Limnophila looks great when planted in groups. The light green to sunny yellow-green pennywort (Lysimachia nummularia "Aurea") is also a wonderful aquarium plant that can also be used as a border planting in the garden pond, for example, but also does very well completely grown under water. The pretty golden green coloration sets very nice accents in the aquarium.

As with most stem plants, propagation of our cold-water trio is extremely uncomplicated. Simply cut off the upper third of the shoots and replant them. This way you also rejuvenate overaged groups of plants.

The plants are weighted down with clay rings when purchased, which you should remove before planting the stems. Then you plant the stems individually with some distance from each other. This way each stem plant gets enough light and can grow well.

By the way, you can still use the clay rings in the aquarium, for example to weigh down nettle leaves for your bottom-dwelling fish or for shrimp.
