The beautiful Marbled Golden Orange Gourami is a color form of Trichonogaster trichopterus. It belongs to the labyrinth fishes. That is, this beautiful ornamental fish breathes atmospheric air at the water surface with the help of its labyrinth organ. The Marbled Golden Orange Threadfin has an orange-gold base color and a varying degree of darker, almost black marble pattern on the body. The iris of the eyes is completely or partially red to orange-red. The fins are adorned with large and smaller bright spots. The long, filamentous pectoral fins, which serve as a tactile organ and olfactory organ for the threadfish and which they very often use very actively, are striking. Males of Trichonogaster trichopterus can be easily identified by their longer and more pointed dorsal fin. The dorsal fin of females is rounded and shorter. The sexes in the Marbled Golden Orange Gourami can only be distinguished from a body length of about 6-8 cm.
Marbled Gourami "gold/orange" are also rather sedate and calm in the aquarium. These peaceful, large and beautiful fish are very popular in aquaristics. Marbled threadfish "gold/orange" can reach a body length of 13-15 cm and for this reason should rather get a larger aquarium with an edge length of at least 120 cm. Marbled Threadfish "gold / orange" can reach an impressive 10 years and older. The Marbled Golden Orange Threadfish comes from Southeast Asia, where it serves as a food fish and lives in rivers with low flow velocity in the plants on the banks. Trichogaster trichopterus has also been found in rivers in South America and Africa, where it has been used as a food fish by humans.
Marbled Golden Orange Threadfish are quite peaceful aquarium companions that like to stand among plants and also otherwise keep a rather calm ball. With peaceful by-fish, gourami feel very comfortable, and they can also be socialized very well with shrimp. Crayfish nip at the thread fins, so you should not socialize gourami with crayfish or dwarf crayfish in the aquarium.
During the mating season, however, it is over with the peace - then the males of the golden-orange gourami defend their territory against intruders. Between the floating plants on the water surface, such as duckweed, frogbit or pond liverwort cushions, the male Trichogaster trichopterus build a large foam nest. Breeding is not difficult. When mating, the delivered eggs float to the top and thus automatically end up in the foam nest. The males perform brood care by cleaning the clutch and collecting fry that have fallen out and returning them to the nest. If there are not enough escape routes in the aquarium for the female, it is less stressful for everyone involved if she is relocated while she is rearing. When the larvae are free swimming and have left the nest, the male should also be removed from the rearing aquarium. In this way, you will get significantly more young fish. Initially they are fed with dust food, finest live food such as infusoria and paramecia and later with artemia euplii and microworms.
Marbled Threadfish "gold / orange" can be kept in aquariums with soft to hard water. Humic substances in aquarium water are important for health and well-being. Water temperatures of 22-28 °C are perfect. As a surface fish, Trichopodus trichopterus tends to orient towards the water surface. Like all labyrinth fish, it is imperative that the Marbled Golden Orange Gourami have free access to the water surface for breathing.
Marbled Gouramis "gold / orange" are typical omnivores, they like frozen food and live food and besides that they also like to eat vegetable food and even algae coverings and duckweed . It can happen that plants with very soft foliage are nibbled, then you should give some soft vegetables or green food to limit this damage. Marblefish can be fed very well with high quality flake food or granulated food for omnivorous aquarium fish.
Our food recommendation: With the NatureHolic BettaFeed a special food for fighting fish has been tailor-made. The soft granules are reminiscent of the consistency of insect larvae in nature. The soft beads protect the sensitive fish mouth from micro-cracks caused by too hard food granules. The specially developed NH Immune+ complex and the NH Color+ high-performance additive support the immune system and the magnificent color development of the fish.
Our plant recommendation: Use for the planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free from snails, planaria and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend for fish keeping the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
