The sunny colored Jinsha shrimp (Neocaridina davidi "Jinsha") is a beautiful and still very new breeding form of the Chinese backstroke shrimp or algae shrimp Neocaridina davidi. The shrimp are intensely orange-yellow and have a beautiful, bright, broadly extended dorsal stri pe. Originally the wild form of Neocaridina davidi lives on the island of Taiwan, however the Jinsha shrimp was bred in Taiwan in the breeding facility of the famous shrimp breeder Leon Su aka Sky Fish and has the well-known extremely high color density and pattern quality.
Neocaridina davidi are adaptable, robust dwarf shrimp that can be found in nature in a variety of biotopes. They live in very different water values from hard water to soft water, in flowing waters and also in ponds and lakes with stagnant water, which is however always very rich in humic substances.
Despite its illustrious origin, the robust Neocaridina davidi "Jinsha" is a dwarf shrimp best suited for beginners. It inherited its tolerance to soft to hard water from its wild ancestors. The Jinsha shrimp is a very young color form and does not yet inherit its pattern 100%, therefore the offspring should be selectively bred to further consolidate the great color and beautiful pattern.
For an aquarium of 20 liters or more with a group of 10-20 of the sunny Neocaridina davidi "Jinsha" a substrate of water neutral gravel or sand is recommended. A good planting is also possible. The Jinsha shrimps take care of fine algae coverings and biofilms very eagerly, they exterminate brown diatoms and flocculent microalgae. As hiding places you should offer the little fellows in the back open or closed shrimp tubes, dense moss cushions and a structure of roots and stones. Especially Neocaridina juveniles like to hide.
Neocaridina davidi "Jinsha" are as peaceful as they are cute. As group animals, they like the company of 10 to 20 dwarf shrimp of the same species as a starter population. Please note that when socialized with other color varieties of the species Neocaridina davidi, the color and pattern of the Jinsha shrimp may be lost. Especially with this new and very attractive color form this would be an extreme pity, which is why we definitely recommend keeping the Jinsha Neocaridina in a species tank. The socialization works well with peaceful snails, small catfish or very small nano fish, which do not eat the shrimp and which are not too curious or too lively.
Neocaridina davidi "Jinsha" is like all Neocaridina backstreak shrimp a specialized reproductive type, which means that the juveniles come up in freshwater without any problems and do not go through a larval stage after hatching. After mating, females carry approximately 20 to 40 highly visible yellow eggs under their abdomen, which they attach to their webbed feet. After 3-4 weeks of intensive brood care, the young hatch. Please wait several weeks for the color pattern to fully develop before starting selection work. The young animals can grow up in the aquarium of their parents without any problems.
Like all Neocaridina the Jinsha shrimp is an omnivore and a first class scavenger in the aquarium. We recommend a few leaves of brown autumn leaves or catappa leaves as a permanent food. A good shrimp food with lots of plant matter is also useful, as is supplementing the diet by giving a suitable protein food for dwarf shrimp once or twice a year.
Our plant recommendation: Use for planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planaria and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend when keeping fish the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
