Streamlined Corydoras, also known as Corydoras arcuatus, originate from South America and are almost unmistakable in appearance alone. They have a slight high back and the typical pairs of barbels on the mouth. Streamlined Corydoras have a silvery base coloration with a distinct and noticeable black curved line from the mouth over the eye along the dorsal fin, which gave them their German name. From the Latin "arcuatus" which roughly means "arched" or "curved". Their remaining fins are all transparent with no spots or blotches.
You will receive our Corydoras arcuatus mixed sexed.
The sexes of the Streamlined Corydoras can be distinguished mainly in the adult stage at a body size between 5.5 and 6 cm. The females form a rather beefier physique and appear more massive. With large water changes and good feeding with live food the animals can be stimulated to mate. Especially various temperature fluctuations simulate the rainy season for them, as they know it from their habitat. These Corydoras are substrate or adhesive spawners, sticking their up to 50 eggs to plants and objects in the aquarium. Since breeding these pretty animals in the community aquarium can be considered more of a fluke, it is worthwhile to have a breeding pair spawn in a separate spawning aquarium and specifically raise the larvae with fine live food .
The streamline armored catfish originates mainly from the upper Amazon, where it inhabits oxygen-rich and fast-flowing tributaries with soft and sandy substrates. Therefore it should find also in the aquarium starting from 80 cm edge length a rather sandy soil without any sharp little stones, at which it could hurt itself. Since it digs among other things in this for food and also eats the food remains of his fellow fish, special care should be taken on his habits. It also regularly seeks the water surface to breathe. For species-appropriate keeping small groups of at least 6 animals are recommended. Its preference for shaded corners can be achieved with appropriately adjusted lighting and dense border and background planting in places. Many hiding places and caves also contribute significantly to its well-being. A slight current and regular water care should be a matter of course for the Streamline Corydoras. In soft to medium hard water with a total hardness (GH) of 2 to 19 °dGH, as well as a pH between 6.0 and 7.5 the Spotted Catfish feels most comfortable. The water temperature should be between 22 and 26 °C.
The Corydoras are very peaceful bottom dwellers, which can be socialized great. Especially in soft- and blackwater tanks they do well. If the aquarium is large enough, they can even be kept with another Corydoras group. They get along great as by-fish also for Angelfish, live-bearing Toothcarps, Tetras and Danios. Dwarf crayfish and crayfish are rather unsuitable, because they stay in the same water zone, which can lead to misunderstandings. With well reproducing Dwarf shrimp species the streamline armored catfish gets along well, but it can happen that a careless shrimp baby is accidentally eaten.
As omnivores with a preference for animal food, they can be easily fed with standard bottom tablets, food tablets, but also with flake food or granulated food. From time to time they are happy about a variety in the form of live or frozen food, such as mosquito larvae, Artemia or also Enchytraea.
Our food recommendation: The NatureHolic catfish feed for all sucking catfish in the aquarium is a well-balanced tablet food, which does not cloud the water and the fish like to eat. The catfish tablets also contain NatureHolic active ingredient complexes that provide sucker catfish with everything they need for a strong immune system, healthy growth and great, contrasting coloration.
Our plant recommendation: Use for planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planarians and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend for fish keeping the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
