The Golden Siamese Loach Gyrinocheilis aymonieri "Gold" from Southeast Asia is an insider tip against algae plagues in the aquarium, but beware: with 25 cm body length, the perfectly adapted to strong currents beautiful loaches become very large, and they also need a correspondingly large aquarium. In tanks that are too small, aggression will occur between the animals and also towards other fish.

The golden form of the Siamese Sucker Loach is golden yellow and has black eyes. This is a leucistic color variation of the wild colored sucking loach. The very large sucking mouth, with which the animals can hold on to the substrate in strong currents and with which they persistently scrape algae coatings from stones, glass and wood, is striking. In nature, this loach lives in strongly flowing, oxygen-rich streams, and in the aquarium it also needs a high oxygen content in the water. The Siamese Sucker Loach is ideal for large flowing aquariums as biotope aquariums.

The golden colored breeding variety of the Siamese Sucking Loach can be kept very well together with shrimps , also with peaceful fish the socialization works. The loaches can suck on large fish such as discus, which can lead to skin damage. Young Golden Siamese Loaches are group fish, with increasing age they become more and more solitary, and they form territories, which they also defend.

Besides algae, Golden Siamese Loaches also like to eat animal food such as frozen food, but also tabs, food granules and soft vegetables. Young sucker loaches are the most efficient algae eaters.

Since the Golden Siamese Sucker Loach likes to hide, you should include setups of roots and rocks in your aquarium. Sucking loaches dig shallow burrows, so the superstructures should ideally be placed directly on the bottom glass to prevent them from toppling over or collapsing. Shelters made of stone slabs are readily accepted.
