The cichlids need despite their rather small size of c.a 12-14 cm a rather large aquarium from c.a 300 liters. The males are extremely territorial and therefore need more space. We recommend to keep always 1 male and 2-3 females in the tank, the substrate should be fine sand, the color does not matter. - Garnelio
