Axelrod's danios are cute little danios that look downright tiny. Originally this pretty blue shimmering comrade comes from Sumatra and Borneo and is a great schooling fish that looks classy and elegant in the aquarium. The also Rasbora axelrodi or Sundadanio axelrodi named animals are quite uncomplicated in the attitude and can be also prima socialized.
Mainly in the color the two sexes can be distinguished, because the males usually become more intensely blue than the females. Especially soft and acidic water parameters support the color expression. As they are very sociable, they should be kept in groups of at least 10 animals. They can be kept unproblematically with other peaceful fish species and even shrimps. It is possible that now and then a careless young animal will be eaten, but shrimps are not actively hunted
A dark non-reflective substrate is an excellent way to show off their color, and they are ideal candidates for aquascapes. In places the aquarium may be densely planted, but should still have enough swimming space. Especially in the plants they like to retreat after romping and playing to rest. Humic substances in the form of sea almond leaves or alder cones also support their well-being and should not be neglected.
The omnivorous danios are not very picky about their food, but they have very small snouts, which is why they are best fed with a food for nano fish. Live and frozen food should also be chosen rather finely, nauplii, but also daphnia and artemia are suitable.
Our food recommendation: The professional NatureHolic Nanofeed is a staple food for all small aquarium fish. This mini fish food and rearing food is a fine soft granulate which, thanks to its softness, resembles the consistency of tiny crustaceans and insect larvae and protects the delicate mouths of nano fish and fry from micro-injuries.
Our plant recommendation: Use for planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planarians and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert tip: We recommend for fish keeping the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
