The Galaxy Tiger Shrimp was first imported from Asia at the end of 2014. It belongs to a species of the genus Caridina, which has not been determined yet. With up to 3.5 cm body length it becomes quite large for a dwarf shrimp. Their interesting line and dot pattern is dark brown to black, often the animals still have a yellowish tail fan and a few white pigments scattered over the back. The males of the Galaxy Tiger Shrimp do not grow quite as large as the females, they are also slightly slimmer.
Galaxy Tiger Shrimp also reproduce in the aquarium if conditions are good. The females carry the relatively large eggs under the abdomen for about four weeks. After this so-called gestation period 20 to 40 baby shrimp hatch, which are not dependent on brood care, but immediately begin to live independently. The older galaxy tiger shrimps hardly follow the offspring.
As a group animal, the Galaxy Tiger Shrimp feels comfortable in an initial group of at least 10 animals. Since these animals are probably still wild caught, they should ideally get a species tank, possibly together with snails . About a possible crossability nothing is known yet, but it is to be assumed that the Galaxy Tiger Shrimp can possibly cross with bee shrimps and with tiger shr imps. Socialization with very peaceful small fish may also work under certain circumstances.
Galaxy Tiger Shrimp tend to prefer soft, clean, oxygen-rich water. A low carbonate hardness (KH) of about 3 to 4 degrees is well tolerated. The ideal water values can be optimally adjusted by osmosis water and a special hardening salt (GH/KH+). Temperatures above 25 °C are not well tolerated by Galaxy Tiger Shrimp, especially in the long run, so the aquarium should possibly be cooled in summer.
Regarding food, the Galaxy Tiger Shrimp is not particularly difficult to satisfy as an omnivore. Brown autumn leaves are in any case a good permanent food, which the animals should also know from nature. But other foods specially adapted to the needs of dwarf shrimp like the Galaxy Tiger Shrimp are also very suitable. Frozen food and green food such as stinging nettle, dried green walnut leaves or spinach are also very readily accepted by them. Twice a week a suitable protein food should be fed with a protein emphasis , otherwise a more vegetable diet is appropriate.
Our Feeding Recommendation: NatureHolic's soft mainfeed softpads are designed for daily feeding. They contain all the nutrients shrimp need for shell development, egg formation and growth. During the production we pay attention to a gentle and environmentally friendly production, which preserves the vitamins and other valuable ingredients as much as possible.
Our plant recommendation: Use for planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planaria and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend for fish keeping the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
