The Tangerine Tiger or Golden Tiger Shrimp from South China is still relatively new in the hobby. Again and again it is called Caridina serrata, but after investigations it turned out that it belongs to the species Caridina cantonensis . The body coloration of the Tangerine Tiger is yellow to golden orange. The typical stripe pattern is black and can vary in intensity and distribution from animal to animal. Males remain slightly smaller and more slender than females, which can grow up to 2.5 cm in size.
The Tangerine Tiger is a peaceful group animal and feels comfortable with a starting stock of 10 to 20 animals in the aquarium. It also socializes well with other shrimp species that have the same water requirements as it. With bee shrimp the Tangerine or Golden Tiger shrimp crosses without problems, which leads to beautiful breeding forms with dorsal stripe (e.g. Skunk) in the offspring. Due to their relatively good reproduction they can be kept together with small, peaceful and not too hectic fish, as well as with snails. However, we do not recommend keeping them together with crayfish, freshwater crabs and mussels - the demands on the water are simply too different.
The Golden Tiger Shrimp likes to eat very much Food vegetable origin. Brown autumn leaves are a suitable permanent food. Twice a week protein should be provided. The easiest way to do this is to use a protein food that is tailored to the needs of shrimp.
The Tangerine Tiger comes from typical soft water biotopes and therefore likes cool, oxygen-rich, slightly acidic, very soft and clean water in the aquarium. Ideal conditions can be created by the use of an active soil, which stabilizes the water values in a range favorable for the Tangerine Tiger, as well as osmosis water and a suitable mineral salt ( "bee salt"). The tap water in many regions is unfortunately too hard for a permanent keeping and especially for a successful breeding. Of course you can keep these beautiful animals on water-neutral gravel - only neither substrate nor decoration should harden up!
Like most dwarf shrimp species, Golden Tiger shrimp release 20 to 40 fully developed young after a gestation period of three to four weeks. This usually happens every two to three months. If the tank is well acclimated and the shrimp feel comfortable, offspring may be released more often. Already at hatching the young animals of the Tangerine Tiger are yellowish colored. Only the stripes are still a little long in coming, they form only in the course of time.
Our food recommendation: NatureHolic's soft Mainfeed Softpads are designed for daily feeding. They contain all the nutrients shrimp need for shell development, egg formation and growth. During the production we pay attention to a gentle and environmentally friendly production, where the vitamins and other valuable ingredients are preserved as much as possible.
Our plant recommendation: Use for planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planaria and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend for fish keeping the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
