The annelid shrimp, scientifically called Macrobrachium assamense, is a very imposing large-armed shrimp that almost looks like a crab with its impressive claws. The difference: in large-armed shrimp, the second pair of walking legs from the front bears the large claws, while in crabs it is the first. "Ringed shrimp" is the name given to the animals because their juvenile shrimp have very conspicuous ringed claw legs and walking legs. Later they become rather brown in the males, and an indistinct ringlet pattern persists in the females. Females remain smaller at 6 cm body length than males, which can reach 8 cm body length, and their claw arms are not as massive. The body color of the ringed shrimp is transparent, gray to brownish with a light black pattern and sometimes a lighter dorsal stripe. The large, serrated rostrum is conspicuous.
Macrobrachium assamense is originally from lakes in Asia. It is very adaptable and can handle a wide range of water values and temperatures.
Reproduction of the annelid shrimp is not a problem. Sexually mature females carry up to 70 relatively large eggs and release fully developed young after 4-6 weeks. With some fall foliage in the aquarium and plenty of hiding places, the survival rate increases significantly.
Macrobrachium assamense can be socialized with dwarf shrimp like the Red Fire dwarf shrimp or also with peaceful medium sized fish without any problems - as long as the demands on the water values fit. However, there are also extremely skillful hunters among the annelid shrimps! Snails are eaten, crabs and shrimps are attacked. Also among each other ring-necked shrimp can become relatively aggressive, many hiding places are therefore mandatory for the keeping of several animals.
The annelid shrimp is an omnivore with emphasis on rather meaty food. Nevertheless, there should always be enough foliage as permanent food and hiding place in the aquarium. They like frozen food, fish food (flakes, granules and tabs), protein food, shrimp food, sometimes also vegetables and green food like nettle and spinach.
Our food recommendation: The soft granulate of the Natureholic MacroFeed consists of biologically balanced animal components that the large-armed shrimp would find in nature in such a way or similar. This supports in a completely natural way the moulting, the development and a healthy growth of your fascinating large arm shrimps in the aquarium.
Our plant recommendation: For planting, use NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planarians and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend for fish keeping the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.

Tiere sind lebend und schnell hier angekommen, sehen recht interessant aus und lassen sich auch von neugierigen Fischen nicht beeindrucken, verstecken sich allerdings im Moment noch
