The tail stripe rasbora is also called tail spotted rasbora or longitudinal banded rasbora and belong to the species Boraras urophthalmoides. These very peaceful aquarium fish remain comparatively tiny at only 2.5 cm. This bearblig originates from Southeast Asia, where it is found in stagnant waters with rich plant growth.
This small ornamental fish is translucent with a black-orange longitudinal band down the middle of the body and a prominent black spot in the caudal fin. In the male, the fins may turn reddish, and they also have a fine black margin in front. Females are slightly thicker overall, and also lack the white spot at the origin of the dorsal fin that males have.
The tail stripe rasbora is a lively fish that loves to swim and should be kept in a school of at least 10. If the environmental conditions are right, the tiny fish can live an amazing 9 years in the aquarium.
Propagation of the tail-spotted danio in the aquarium is difficult, better is a separate spawning tank with moss, from which the parent fish are removed again when they have spawned. The tiny fish larvae are best fed with dust food and slipper fish, later also with artemia euplii.
Tail-spotted danios prefer soft, slightly acidic to neutral water (pH approx. 6-7) and a water temperature of approx. 22-26 °C. The current in the aquarium should not be too strong, the light not too bright. Floating plants are good for shading.
As a typical omnivore the Tailstriped Rasbora likes fine flake food, but also small live food or frozen food like Artemia euplii or Cyclops. There is a trick: The larvae themselves would be too large, but if you take the floating egg boats from the rain barrel, the fish can simply pick the freshly hatching, tiny mosquito larvae from the water surface.
The tail stripe rasbora is an exceptionally peaceful little fish, and shrimp larvae do not fit in its tiny mouth. It can even be kept well in an aquarium with bee shr imp or other soft water dwarf shrimp due to its water preferences.

Our food recommendation: The professional NatureHolic Nanofeed is a staple food for all small aquarium fish. This mini fish food and rearing food is a fine soft granulate which, thanks to its softness, resembles the consistency of tiny crustaceans and insect larvae and protects the delicate mouths of nano fish and fry from micro-injuries.
Our plant recommendation: Use for planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planarians and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend for fish keeping the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
