Gold Laser Cory DNZ - Corydoras spec. CW010

The beautiful Gold Laser Corydoras sp. is possibly a site variant of Corydoras aeneus. The Gold Laser or Gold Line Cory is native to the Amazon region of South America. This cory is distinguished by its unusual color: on an orange gold ground it has a broad dark longitudinal stripe along the midline, above which is a bright orange gold intense longitudinal stripe. The fins are golden yellow to orange transparent. On the mouth Corydoras sp. has the typical pairs of barbels.

Males remain slender in this Corydoras sp. and only grow to about 5 cm in size. The females are much bulkier and grow up to 8 cm long. The Gold Laser Corydoras is a very sociable and social group fish, it needs conspecifics and should be kept in a group of at least 5-10 animals. The Gold Laser Corydoras sp. lives in the lower part of the aquarium and as an intestinal breather it occasionally goes to the water surface, to which it always needs free access.

This Corydoras sp. is extremely peaceful and gets along really well with other aquarium fish, as long as they themselves are small to medium sized and also peaceful. Please keep it only as a group, as the Gold Laser Corydoras is a very social fish. There are no problems with shrimp either, although it is possible for very careless shrimp babies to be accidentally eaten, the Gold Laser Catfish does not actively chase them. A socialization with crayfish, on the other hand, can be difficult, since Corydoras sp. lives in the same area in the aquarium and would be injured or even eaten by the crayfish in case of disputes about the best cave or place (or food).

The Gold Laser Corydoras reproduces in the aquarium and is also successfully bred in aquariums. In the community tank, however, the fry usually do not grow large, for a specific breeding you need a separate breeding aquarium. The armored catfish are fed with rich live food and high-quality frozen food to stimulate their readiness to spawn. Then a large water change with cooler water simulates the rainy season, which often triggers courtship. The female Corydoras sp. lays up to 100 very sticky individual eggs on all sorts of surfaces in the aquarium after mating. The very small Corydoras larvae hatch after a few days, depending on the temperature. At the latest then the parents should be put back into their aquarium, because they would eat the young fish. The babies of the Gold Laser Catfish are fed with self prepared Artemia nauplii.

The Gold Laser Corydoras will live 8 to 10 years with good care. At a water temperature of 22-27 °C Corydoras sp. can be kept optimally in soft to medium hard water and a pH between 6 and 7. The aquarium should have a length of 80 cm for a small group. Sandy substrate or a sandy corner are advantageous, because here the Corydoras can dig nicely for food Hiding places should be offered in sufficient numbers.

The Gold Laser Catfish is an omnivore with a slight preference for animal food. Live and frozen foods are readily taken, but Corydoras will also eat plant debris and algae. Special food tabs for armored catfish are suitable, as well as normal commercial flake food or granulated food for omnivorous aquarium fish in a community aquarium.
