With its sunny yellow appearance, the German Yellow Guppy male will cause a stir in your tank. Also known as Poecilia reticulata, this ornamental fish is one of the most popular aquarium fish of all and has always been an old hand in aquaristics. Guppies are easy to keep and easy to breed, which is why they are also quite suitable for beginners.
Here you can get Guppy malesthe matching females can be found in the store.
The Poecilia reticulata is quite closely related to the Endler Guppy and is able to produce fertile hybrids with it, so it is better not to keep these two together in the same tank. If you want to keep the pure yellow color, it is better not to mix other colors, because otherwise it is possible that colorful offspring will be produced.
Guppies reproduce reproduce on their own and without your help, which is why they are also called "million fish". If you want to prevent a baby glut, you can keep them in a purely male group without any problems. However, it can always happen that even here young appear from time to time, because females, once fertilized, can store the sperm for a while. The parents chase their offspring, which is why you should plant the aquarium well in places or use a breeding box. You can feed the young with Artemia nauplii but also with a rearing food like our Young Feed to raise them.
Care for the sociable animals preferably in a group of at least 5 animalsso that they do not care. The Socialization is also possible with other livebearers. Corydoras are also suitable, Tetras, Danios, Loricariid catfish but also bigger shrimps like the Amano shrimp or Fan shrimp. With well reproducing dwarf shrimp species like the Neocaridina they get along well, even if they occasionally feed on a careless juvenile - for this reason a good planting is advantageous. But you should better keep away from crayfish.
The omnivore can be fed in the aquarium super with usual granulated food, dry food and flake food for omnivorous ornamental fish. Different kinds of live and frozen food like Tubifex, various Mosquito larvaebut also Daphniagrindalworms or Artemia round off his menu. Since guppies also tug at algae, you can spoil them now and then with soaked zucchini chips, pumpkin chips and algae leaves.
Our food recommendation: The fragrant NatureHolic Guppyfeed has been tailored to the needs of guppies and other viviparous fish in the aquarium. In addition to high-quality animal ingredients, it also contains vegetable components that benefit guppies & co. The soft granules protect the sensitive mouth of the viviparous from injuries caused by hard food grains and provide the fish with a natural feeding experience.
Our plant recommendation: Use for planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planarians and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: When keeping invertebrates we recommend the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
