The moss Taxiphyllum barbieri from Southeast Asia is a rather insensitive and robust plant. It is known as Java moss, although originally the species Vesicularia dubyana was introduced as Java moss. Taxiphyllum barbieri, however, replaced the original Java moss in the hobby as early as the 1970s, although V. dubyana is still available from time to time, usually under the name Java moss or Singapore moss. Taxiphyllum barbieri moss grows well under low light and also in the shade of other plants. It tolerates a wide range of water values and is not sensitive to temperature.
This portion of Java moss is already professionally tied onto a lava stone. It can therefore be used optimally in the foreground and in the middle ground.
By regular pruning you can give the Javamoos Taxiphyllum barbieri a nice dense growth. The cut off moss fronds can be tied on small flat stones or glued with superglue and used in the foreground or on roots or larger stones in the middle ground. After some time, the moss takes root with its adhesive roots and continues to grow on the respective surface.
