Originally the Hyphessobrycon bentosi, as it is scientifically called, comes from Guyana in South America and lives there in soft to medium hard waters.

Growing up to 5.5 cm in size, the ornamental tetra has a transparent body and translucent fins. The tip of the dorsal fin is fringed with white, and the caudal fin has red spots. Males are more intensely colored and have a longer extended dorsal fin, and females grow slightly larger. Breeding in the aquarium is possible, but the parents are strong spawn predators, so the young fish should rather be raised in a breeding tank. The water should be soft to medium hard and have a pH value of 6-7.5. They feel most comfortable at a temperature of 23 and 26 °C.
