A great plant for the foreground is Glossostigma elatinoides from Australia, affectionately known as Glosso. The Australian tongue leaf grows quickly and makes gaps in the plant carpet quickly dense by runners. With enough light, CO2 supply and a good nutrient sitation Glossostigma grows very fast and forms a dense carpet.
Glossostigma elatinoides stays really small with 1-2 cm height. Its medium green to bottle green tongue-shaped leaflets have given the tongue leaf its name. By creeping shoots it grows very densely and thus soon a really great lawn is created in the aquarium foreground. In low light, the Australian tongue leaf tends to grow taller.
Planting is done as follows: Remove the plant from the InVitro cup and rinse the translucent nutrient gel from the roots. Then divide the glosso into pieces with 3-4 leaflets each. Push them deep into the substrate so that only the tips of the leaflets stick out. Tongue leaf plantlets hold best in Powder Type Soil, which, thanks to its very fine granulation, gives support to even the smallest rootlets.
Propagate the reed leaf easily by cutting off the runners with about 4-5 leaflets on them and replanting.
This tongue leaf was grown in vitro. It comes from tissue culture, thus eliminating the need for pesticides. Algae, pathogens such as bacteria or viruses, as well as larger pests such as planarians or annoying snails are not included here at all.
Our recommendation: For a splendid plant growth we recommend the use of the NatureHolic fertilizer series and for new set up the Premium Nutrient Substrate NatureHolic GroundBooster.
