This java fern Microsorum pteropus 'Trident' is ideal for the middle ground. It has been tied onto a root and is thus ready for use. With this root you can accentuate both an aquascape and a breeding tank, but Javafarn Trident also grows very well emersed in terrariums with high humidity.
Trident java fern is characterized by narrow, medium to dark green, relatively long leaves. They divide at the base of the leaves. Contrary to the name (trident = divided into three parts) the number of parts is variable, also undivided, then somewhat broader leaves occur. The variety "Trident" with up to 15 cm does not grow as tall as other Java fern varieties.
Trident can be propagated as well as all other varieties of Microsorum pteropus. On the one hand, young plants always grow at the tips of the leaves, which can then be cut off and tied on separately. On the other hand, you can also cut off a piece of the horizontally growing rootstock and tie it on. There should be at least one pair of leaves on the offshoot. Java fern should never be planted in the ground, the rhizome is very sensitive to rot.
Javafarn 'Trident' is a great plant for beginners as well as experienced aquascapers and fits into both smaller and larger aquariums in the foreground to middle ground, ideally tied up on roots or rocks.
